Turtles
Carrie Mesrobian of San Jose, CA wrote; " I just wanted
to say
how much I am enjoying the Animal Spirits book.Gorgeous artwork
and very
insightful. And the Spirit Art emails really perk up the week!
I was amazed
when I received the first one about turtles as just the week
before, for the first
time in my life, I came across a family of turtles. And then
the next email was
about hummingbirds - one of my totems! It made me realize how
fortunate I
am here in California to have these delightful beings year round.
Interestingly,
hummingbirds come to sit in front of me - just a reminder that
if they can
slow down, so can I! Anyway, thank you so much for all the joy!" |

Butterflies
Here is your second
[drawing_everyday] post. I am sending this one early
this morning as I am off to enjoy a day of fun in the sun with
my girlfriends at
Terri Loy's shore house. Your {Spirit_Art} letter may be a little
late on
Thursday, as I have packed my tooth brush, just in case!

Falcon
These are drawings
I did from pictures I took yesterday of Halo,
a rare Gyrfalcon which was injured and found far from her range
here
in New Jersey. She is now being trained to be used in educational
programs
by my friend, Terri Loy of Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. I drew
Halo from
life yesterday and drew her again from my photos again today.
What a
beautiful and magically intriguing animal she is! This rare Arctic
dwelling
falcon has been highly revered by falconers throughout recorded
history.

Are you my mother?
I didn't know what
I was going to draw tonight, but after checking my emails,
I decided to do a sketch of a variation of this adorable and
amazing
photo that
was forwarded to me and waiting in my inbox. I don't know who
took it or
where it came from, so where ever and who ever you are, thank
you!
It is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Mommy!
I got three awesome
eagle pictures forwarded to me today in my inbox. The
photographer is unknown. There are some amazing pictures on the
web today!
It is up to us artists to respect the copyrights of others. That
is why I interpret
rather than copy an image. Tracing is a no no and stay away from
computer
manipulation unless it is your own photo! I am including the two images
I used for reference today. I also used a couple of my own photos
and
often use 5 - 8 references to design a painting.

Allen's Dock
Today's drawing is
from a photo I took last week when I was down the shore.
I am including the photo as well as the sketch. I've simplified
the scene a bit
and changed a few elements to make it a better design. The hardest
part was
drawing that darn car! I've come to the realization that I sure
could use some
practice drawing vehicles. I'll have to work on that some day.

Margaritaville
My parents are visiting
from Florida and they are a bad influence on me.
They are party animals! I was trying to draw and my dad (Big
Al) was
forcing me to drink Margaritas. Here is today's sketch of an
elf doll I
own. (Handmade from my friend Judy Lane.) Tomorrow I vow to draw
before cocktail hour!

Water Lily
One of our friends,
Donna Ordille, forwarded me a
photo of a water lily
she took in Georgia. It got me thinking that I wanted to paint
some, for quite
a while now. Thanks Donna, you got me started. Great shot. It
got me inspired!

Three in One
Sending you off some
new water lily doodlings this afternoon.
In the top sketch, I was exploring some of those mysterious dark
water
reflections that lily ponds are famous for. The center design
focuses on a different
type of lily with long stems and the bottom drawing honors the
king!

6/29/06 ~ Queen's Lace
Today's Drawing is of Queen Anne's
Lace. I picked a bunch on the side of
the road on the way home from shopping with mom today. It reminded
me
of one of my best friends, whose birthday is today! Happy birthday
Jim!!

Bog Canna
I'm still interested
in drawing lily ponds and water plants today.
Today's drawing is from a photo I took at Longwood Gardens
a couple of years ago. I believe these are "Longwood Canna".
P.S. The dragonfly is for Tommy. :-)
